Artist statement & resume

Robert Reep

Statement:
Common objects and their communicative nature are the foundations for my art.  Academic training and studio practice have aided this pursuit, but my heroes are rooted in the senses and richness of ordinary items and routines.  I approach each day with an awareness of the opportunities each new discovery brings.  I attempt to create spirited and sophisticated works that reflect my curiosity, emotion and enthusiasm for the inventory and activity of daily life.  The purity of invention is the stock of my simple recipe.  I'm challenged by accessible materials and motivated to make accessible art.  I liken my current work to casual albeit curious conversations that spark imagination and consideration.  It is an honest effort to connect with an attentive audience via a vocabulary that is familiar, but not obvious and personal, but not always comfortable or easily understood.  Still, I hope my art engages them intimately and that this subtle, silent and solitary dialogue contributes to their experience.  Innovation and variety excites and entertains an eager audience and I share their anticipation for and participation in the visual arts.  Enjoy!
